I personally hate not having data, I chose the traditional New Year start date as I had to get scheduled for the Dexa scan before I wanted to start so I had a baseline of how sad I was in health and where and how much bodyfat I had to lose.
Unlike impedence scales and mathed out numbers I wanted definitive points that I can check every month as I progress and see where they head, importantly the visceral fat levels, fat, and lean mass.
The hope is that over this next year I can bring visceral fat to normal, maintain or grow lean mass, and drop off loads of bodyfat in general.
I feel this is where I failed on previous attempts with Atkins (2004-2006) and Keto (2018-2019). In this other attempts I am pretty sure I lost bodyfat but also loads of muscle mass leading to huge weight loss but also lowering of metabolism and eventually there is no more muscle to lose and you plateau hard.
This time around I am lifting, I am doing Strongliftf 5x5 3 days a week and then on the non-lift days my goal is to be hitting a minimum of 10k steps.
My next Dexa scan is setup for January 30th and I hope to within the first 4 months see a quantitative drop in visceral fat, hold on lean mass, and lose some bodyfat on the outside.
I currently start with these measurements:
- Height: 71" or 5'11"
- Weight: 296 lbs
- BMI: 41.3
- Bodyfat: 32.6%
- Visceral Fat
- Est VAT Mass: 1118 grams (2.47 lbs)
- Est VAT Volume: 1209 cm3
- Total Mass
- Fat Mass: 43782.9g (96.52 pounds)
- Lean Mass: 87314.8g (199.37 pounds)
